I am Ninon aged 18 this year, currently studying in ITE College East, 2 Year Higher Nitec in Sport Management. As I reflect on my journey through Taekwondo, which began back in 2019, back in Edgefield Secondary School, one aspect stands out above all: the development of self-confidence. It’s not merely about mastering kicks and punches; it’s about believing in oneself and surpassing limits.

Initially, stepping into the school hall felt daunting. The sight of coaches in their uniforms, adorned with eye-catching black belts, was intimidating. Yet, with each training session, my understanding and passion for this sport grew. As I honed my skills, my confidence
soared, making those high kicks seem less daunting.

Above that I was also given the opportunity by my Taekwondo CCA teacher-in-charge and my coaches to take up the role of the CCA leader/captain. After taking up that role, it made me more confident in my leadership skills.

Over five years of dedicated practice, Taekwondo transcended being a mere physical activity. It became a catalyst for personal growth. The discipline required to master forms and techniques spilt over into various facets of my life. Through the highs and lows of training, one thing remained constant: the transformative power of Taekwondo. It wasn’t solely about physical strength; it was about nurturing
mental resilience. Every kick, and every block demanded unwavering focus and determination. With each advancement in belt level, I felt myself evolving not just as a martial artist but also as an individual.

Despite my busy schedule of school and work, my passion for Taekwondo never waned. I consistently made time for training, even while juggling academic pursuits and employment. Currently serving as a Taekwondo coach, I not only impart knowledge to my students but also reinforce my fundamentals.

Despite the demands of school, training, and work, I managed to not only become the CCA leader/captain of Taekwondo in ITE College East but also achieve excellent academic results, allowing me to enrol in the accelerated course at ITE. This decision enabled me to expedite my educational journey by cutting nine months of study time, propelling me closer to my goals.

Reflecting on my journey, I realized that Taekwondo has shaped me in ways I never imagined. It’s more than just mastering techniques; it’s about mastering oneself. Through this journey of self-discovery, I’ve cultivated a confidence that extends far beyond the confines of the dojang
