Hi, my name is Ihsan and I love Taekwondo. Despite many challenges I face when practicing Taekwondo for either National School Games Competition or grading, I still enjoy the journey itself.

At first, I thought that Taekwondo was scary and quite difficult as it was a new experience for me but with the help of the instructors, I managed to tackle the challenges that came along with the co-curricular activity. Through this journey, I faced challenges like finding time to attend Taekwondo training, fasting while doing Taekwondo and being exhausted from Basketball CCA and also having to juggle other responsibilities. I have learned values like resilience and determination. Although times may be difficult, it should not stop me from doing my best and without discomfort it won’t achieve any improvement. After a long day in school, I would still have to push myself to come for training sessions and train even during non-curriculum hours. This is what Taekwondo has taught me to be disciplined.

Taekwondo has also taught me to be more responsible and respectful towards my peers, elders and others. Taekwondo has a philosophy that we must bow before doing any kind of training. Furthermore, we have to bow to the venue as a sign of respect. We develop the virtues of respect and gratitude to others. I have gone for two National School Games, 2022 and 2023. Winning 3rd place for the team in 2022 and 2nd for the team in 2023. I have even won 5th place for doing red tip in 2023. I have even been interviewed by the Strait Times to share about my experience in the Co-curriculum.

I plan to pursue Taekwondo until I get a black belt and also compete in the Kyorugi events during National School Games. Through this, I believe that I will gain new experiences and learn more about Taekwondo as a combative sport. By doing this, it will improve my fitness and also my mental health. Teaching me things like being more flexible, focused and responsible. I have even set aside a structured study time every night because of the self-discipline acquired from the training.

In summary, Taekwondo has taught me a lot, from being humble to being dedicated to do things and making friends along the way. It also taught me that achievements come with hard work
