Hello readers, I am Xavier Soh, a 16 year old student from Edgefield secondary school as of this year 2024. As a student in Edgefield secondary school, I was given the opportunity to practice taekwondo (The art of kicking and punching) as a subject for the Learning For Life subject in lower secondary. Through this experience, I have gained genuine interest in practicing taekwondo as it is exhilarating and can count towards exercise. As a result, I continued my practice in upper secondary. Thus, I am now a practitioner of taekwondo. My sport, taekwondo, is all about kicking and punching in a refined but fierce manner. During training sessions, my peers and I undergo intense physical training such as repeating a pattern endlessly till we are physically exhausted or spar against one another . Someday it is just to learn a new poomsae (pattern) to use in competitions. My interest in this sport grew large because of my instructors and friends I made along the way

Through the training sessions, I have gained a relentless determination to do what I want to achieve, a strong perseverance to overcome my shortcoming and obstacles to achieve my goals and many more. Some of the lessons I have learned is that the path to greatness is one often filled with pain and difficulties. What I am trying to say is that in order to achieve great things in life, we would have to go through some forms of suffering while trying to achieve our goal. Some forms of suffering could include sore muscles , pain, and use up a lot of time and effort. Another lesson I learned is that with dedication and a lot of effort, one can go from zero to hero. What I meant by this lesson is that even if we are incompetent in a sport, we can excel by focusing strongly and the will to put in the time and effort to reach the goal. My favorite part of training is probably target training and sparing. My least favorite part would probably be doing the patterns.

My personal achievements for sports are that I have achieved top 30 positions twice for a school wide run in 2023 and 2024. My academic achievements are attained Edusave Scholarship for last year, promoted from NA to express in 2021/ 2022 Additionally, I have commitments outside of taekwondo such as member of Student Leader Council, Vice Head of class leaders branch, volunteering in numerous charities. My future goals I would like to achieve are to get into my dream polytechnic course, lead a fulfilling life and have my name forever immortalized in the world hall of Fame. (I would be remembered by the masses as a great person).
